Blessed With a Time of Debriefing

This is not a subject that missionaries are comfortable sharing with their team! Since we returned to the US many friends and fellow missionaries have advised us that we really need to to Debrief. It is hard to be on the receiving end of ministry. Giving is so much easier than receiving, but that is something we must grow in. As various ones have prompted us to get missionary debrief counseling, we have heard the Lord's gentle direction and have submitted to His loving provision.

Our local church here in Richmond, VA, (Movement Church), blessed us with a week of debriefing in Roanoke, VA with Blue Ridge Christian Counseling. Their Missionary Counseling Initiative is a program designed exactly for missionaries in our situation: home from the field and trying to navigate great loss in all areas of life and ministry, and to begin to discern God's path forward for healing and future ministry. We completed the week with a powerful and humbling sense of God's love for us, and His commitment to be present with us as we walk forward.

What have we learned? So far, we have very consistently heard our Lord say, you are not done in missions! That is our hearts desire and it is wonderful to know that He still has work for us to do. Another word from the Lord is perhaps the most difficult to hear: He wants us to rest. Really? We want to be in the game! But when I ask God why, He shows me where He is working, and asks me to be patient.

We are actively experimenting with a few options for ministry beyond the boarders of the US. Stay tuned for an update about our current and upcoming work with ministries in multiple countries.
